Museum of Florianópolis

The Museum of Florianópolis is a city museum that chooses as an object of study, reflection and communication the territory, more than the politically constituted city. In this sense, it was designed to act as a great portal of access to the municipality, where it is possible to know the city, in an interactive way, and understand it in its contemporaneity.

Expomus acted in the museological coordination of the implementation of the space, inaugurated in November 2021 in the restored building of the old House of Chamber and Jail, of the Florianópolis City Hall, which granted the management of the equipment to the Social Service of Commerce (Sesc-SC) for 20 years.

The Museum was born with the objective of promoting continuous reflection on the territory, the dynamics of construction, occupation and transformation of urban space, in its different dimensions: historical, geographical, cultural and symbolic, where temporalities converge and interpenetrate, through the exhibition of physical collections, technology, interactivity and its multidisciplinary educational program, comprehensive and inclusive.

Based on an innovative concept, the Museum of Florianópolis brings characteristics of historical museums, preserving the memory of the Capital of Santa Catarina, while looking at the present time to understand the complexity of the issues of the city today, in order to open a dialogue for the future. Using different technologies and exposing important collections, the space should position itself in the museological scenario of the municipality as an interlocutor to address emerging issues, bring different voices of the population.

Bauhaus Imaginista: Reciprocal Learning

Exhibition held by SESC São Paulo in partnership with bauhaus Kooperation Berlin Dessau Weimar, the Goethe-Institut and haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) berlin was the first part of a project that aimed to address various aspects of the Bauhaus movement, a German arts school founded in 1919 and closed by the Nazi regime, which revolutionized modern design by nailing the use of simplified lines and forms. The exhibition curated by German Marion von Osten and British man Grant Watson featured around 300 works by artists such as Paul Klee and Lygia Clark.

The organization of the Bauhaus Imaginista project was the result of a collaboration with the Design Museum of China in Hangzhou; with the Independent Administrative Institution of the National Museum of Art/National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto; and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow.

Among the overseas partners were also the Goethe-Institute of China, New Delhi, Lagos, Moscow, New York, Rabat, São Paulo and Tokyo.

Jamaica Jamaica!

The exhibition held at SESC May 24, in São Paulo, presented a picture of the musical and political evolution of Jamaica, popularizing its various rhythms and influences in other contexts, including Brazil.

Jamaica Jamaica! it brought together rare objects, images and films found in private collections and museums in Jamaica, the United States and the United Kingdom. Giving the floor to Jamaican artists, the exhibition sounded like a cry, an appeal, through this song that became the spokesperson for the indignation of a people and that takes its supplication far beyond the borders of Jamaica, to make it one of the most popular songs in the world.

Lasar Segall: Color Essay

Lasar Segall: essay on color was a retrospective with 87 paintings and six drawings by the Naturalized Brazilian Lithuanian artist held at SESC May 24. The exhibition, curated by Maria Alice Milliet and produced by Expomus, made a narrative based on the chromatic schemes and color studies that Segall developed in his work.

The show was divided into four modules – Anguish: the emotion color; Under the sign of the tropics: the national palette; Compassion: not color; and Introspection: the “Segall color”. In each nucleus the curator included a work of a Brazilian artist who dialogues with the respective phase of Segall.

The exhibition was held in a partnership between SESC and the Lasar Segall Museum. The works belonged to private collections and institutions such as the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, MASP, the Institute of Brazilian Studies (USP) and the Edson Queiroz Foundation.
